Please sign and share this petition worldwide in an effort to demand Brazil not to exploit their children and protect them as requested by UNICEF! With the 2014 FIFA World Cup events underway, Brazil is often in violation of children's rights and the Child Labor Laws. The objective is for all events of the World Cup to be enjoyable for children and adults alike without violating the rights of the youngsters.

UNICEF has concerns about the protection and exploitation of children in Brazil. Child labor was the form of child exploitation most often registered on the Brazilian government’s Secretariat of Human Rights hotline during two major events in Brazil held in 2013. This is a serious concern in protecting children and adolescents because it was downplayed as being a serious abuse of children's rights in that country .

As the 2014 FIFA World Cup events are underway, this marks the importance of the World Day against Child Labor. Without protection, children can be exposed to violations such as physical and psychological violence, abuse and sexual exploitation. Although children and adolescents younger than 16 are not permitted to work in Brazil, there are approximately 3 million Brazilian boys and girls, aged 10 to 17 years, who are victims of child labor.

Children need to be protected during the World Cup due to past concerns, especially those who already belong to vulnerable groups such as girl domestic workers, boys recruited by the drug trade, as well as Afro-Brazilian and indigenous children. Since they are currently out of school, Brazilian children may be even more vulnerable to different forms of child labor such as the use of children for sexual exploitation purposes, pornography, forced labor and all forms of work that are likely to harm the safety, health or morals of children.

Brazil is making some efforts to strengthen its child protection system along with a campaign launched by UNICEF as a way to protect the children from exploitation. As we mark the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, let us mark this as the end of child labor and exploitation by supporting their efforts, known as ‘Projeta Brasil’ that will stop exploitation and protect children. Brazilian Government Officials - It is sad that children throughout Brazil can be used in such compromising situations that exploit them and violate the child labor laws. With the onset of ‘Projeta Brasil’ and the campaign set forth by UNICEF, we urge you to stop the exploitation of children throughout your country, enforcing the Child Labor Laws. Protect the children in your country, keep them safe and let them have fun as children should.
