Virginia Tech: Do Not Induct Michael Vick into the Sports Hall of Fame

Ten years after Michael Vick was convicted for running an illegal dogfighting operation – according to a federal indictment, he killed underperforming dogs himself by hanging, drowning or slamming them to the ground – Virginia Tech announced he will be inducted into the college's Sports Hall of Fame in September.

Vick was a quarterback for VT's Hokies football team from 1998-2001 and holds the college's records for yards per completion, yards per attempt in a season and yards per attempt in a career.

But after he graduated, he started running the Bad Newz Kennels, where dogs were fought to their deaths. In 2007 he was convicted and sentenced to 23 months in prison.

Vick does not belong in Virginia Tech's Sports Hall of Fame, especially since one of the criteria is that the inductee must be "of good character and reputation/not have been a source of embarrassment to the university in any way."
