Urge SeaWorld to FREE all Orcas, Don't let them die in Captivity

  • by: Lucio Ortega Jr

There are a least seven Orcas that have been in capitivity and in solitude for over 30 years. Now that SeaWorld has not plans to breed Orcas,I urge them to set these Orcas and eventually all Orcas FREE. They deserve to be set FREE after years of performing; retirement is not enough, set them FREE.

Approximately a year ago, SeaWorld announced that they would no long make the Orcas perform for audiences. While it marked some progress, they still continued to breed Orcas in captivity. New generations were doomed to live their lives in captivity. Their have been over 65 deaths of Orcas at SeaWorld. SeaWorld is not concerned for the welfare of the animals that sustain their livelihood. Orcas are meant to live in free flowing seawater, not in a cesspool, where they are prone to respiratory or digestive ailments which limits their live span. Today, March 18, 2016, SeaWorld announced that it would halt their breeding program. The current generation of Orcas, are the last Orcas to be bred for profit. It may seem as a victory for Orcas but it is not the case. While they will no longer have to perform or bred, they will remain captive the rest of their natural lives. I want to urge SeaWorld to FREE the Orcas now in captivity. There are at least t seven Orcas whom are living a life of solitude. These Orcas have been in captivity for over 30 years, and now, after their mates or offspring have died, they are alone in the pools they have lived in all their lives. Since SeaWorld in no longer planning to breed them, and therefore no more offspring or mates to keep them company, I wish to urge SeaWorld to set them FREE, so they can live the rest of their lives in the ocean. I urge the powers that be, please consider my and (our) request to set them FREE. And, please don't transfer them to another sea park where they may facethe same abuse and loneliness as seen at SeaWorld.

Sincerely,

Lucio Ortega Jr

Response from Humane Society of the United State: "SeaWorld is treating the Orcas humanely. Therefore they see no reason for them to be released, they will die in captivity. See story below, just copy and paste into your browser.

Response from Sea World: They would be sitting ducks if enclosed in a sea sanctuary, as if they aren't thttps://www.thedodo.com/seaworld-orcas-sea-sanctuaries-pens-1700373682.html?utm_content=bufferc553f&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=bufferhat now.

Good morning, today I emailed PETA and the Humane Society with a preliminary petition. This will give them ample time to respond. I will also be mailing the petition to both the Humane Society and Sea World Parks and Entertainment corporate headquarters by the end of the month. Again, thank you for signing my petition, only through perseverance can we bring change.

Yeah, we are over 1,000 supporters. Newest update, SeaWorld has agreed to stop breeding of Orcas permanently. SeaWorld has also joined forces with the Humane Society of the United States as they transition. With your help, I hope to convince them to free the Orcas, no sanctuary. It makes no sense to go form one tank to another. Thank you for everyone who signed. Currently drafting cover letter and petition letter.
