Protect Children From For-Profit Prison Companies

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is planning to send thousands of children and mothers at the U.S. Southwest border to live in a new family detention center. This would be the largest family detention center in the U.S., to be built 70 miles away from the major city of San Antonio, Texas. The worst part is, this detention center will be run by the for-profit prison company Corrections Corporation of America (CCA).

This is the same company that was proven guilty of providing deplorable conditions for detained children at the border in 2009. Forced to wear prison uniforms, children were given limited time outdoors and weren't provided education or medical care. With a new center in the works, it's time to take a stand against these inhumane conditions for children!

According to ICE, the best solution to the crisis at the border is to detain children while private prisons profit from their situations. Last year, CCA made almost $1.7 billion in revenue. Their sole business is keeping detention centers full. Now, with upwards of 60,000 children and mothers detained at the border, CCA stands to profit even more.

Sign the petition to urge ICE to uphold the rights of children at the border. There's no place for children in detention centers, especially those that make billions off their detainment!

Dear [Decision maker],

I find it disgraceful that you are hiring Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) to build a new family detention center in Texas. Upwards of 60,000 children and their family members have crossed the border this year. Your apparent solution is to imprison them all in deplorable conditions while companies like CCA make billions. This is not right! We have the responsibility to treat children with dignity and respect. Detaining children at the border in for-profit detention centers is not the solution.

We can't let CCA and others make billions off these children's detainment. There are more humane alternatives, like sending children to live with family already in the U.S. Please halt all developments to hire any for-profit prison company during this border crisis.

Sincerely,
