Wyland: Please Visit Taiji, Japan Again!

Please, Wyland, find time in your busy schedule to drop in on Taiji between now and March 2013. The whales and dolphins need your voice! I believe if Wyland were to visit Taiji it would bring much-needed media coverage to this horrible situation.

Wyland, the renknowed marine environmental arists, was paid by the Taiji Whale Museum to paint a mural in 1991.  The mural still adornes the entrance to the museum in the notorious town known internationally for its brutal dolphin drive hunts.  Wyland hoped the mural would inspire and educate people about whale appreciation, and persuade them to stop the killing.  He also watched a drive hunt and was horrified.

Wyland hoped the mural could bring change, but it has not.  He spoke out that he has seen "The Cove" and does not support what happens in Taiji.  However, it is my belief, that Wyland should once againt visit Taiji to see what is going on and check in on his mural. To witness firsthand how the captive whales and dolphins are faring twenty years later and to see what happens to the unlucky ones.  The Taiji Whale Museum is a major benefactor of the drive fishery business.  They fuel the captive trade, which is the root of the continuation of the annual dolphin slaughter.

Dear Wyland,

I write to you regarding Taiji, Japan.  I am aware of your mural that adorns the Taiji Whale Museum, and I know that you painted it in hopes that it would bring awareness and enlightenment to the people of Taiji,  However, over twenty years has passed and they still continue to hunt dolphins with fury.  Not only for meat, but to fuel the captive trade in live dolphins.

I view you as a natural ambassador of peace.  I would like to suggest that you find time in your busy schedule to visit Taiji again before the end of the drive hunt season in March 2013. Your presence in Taiji would be one of peace and also positive media attention.  There are thousands of us concerned for the fate of the marine mammals that are unlucky enough to pass by Taiji.  Most of us are regular people who are being ignored by the media.  This movement needs many strong voices if it is going to succeed at bringing peace to the shores of Japan.  Many Japanese citizens do not even know what is going on in Taiji.

Thank you for your consideration, Wyland.  I hope you can use your voice to speak out against this atrocity.

Sincerely,
