Pass Law Limiting Pets in a Single Home to Assure Proper Care

A recent case in the Toledo, Ohio area involved a home with multiple dogs, several that were taken into custody. Authorities were called to the home due to a noise disturbance. Immediately the police came and had 14 of more than 20 dogs removed, along with the assistance of the Humane Society.

What was also disturbing about this case is that the home where the dogs allegedly lived was unfurnished and unoccupied except for the dogs. The home was reportedly very warm and unsanitary due to excess fecal matter and urine covering all areas of the residence. The dog’s owner stated she is buying the home and did have a key for it although only the animals were living at the address.

The woman claims that she purchased a dog, could not have it spayed which eventually led to several litters of puppies. The whole situation just got out of hand as the dogs multiplied and the woman could not handle it, as she says “It got out of hand. I love dogs, and I thought I could do it on my own. I knew I needed help, but every place I contacted would either not call me back or tried to send me in a different direction, which always never helped.”

When rescued and removed from this home, the authorities claimed that all the animals seemed to be in good condition and friendly; however, they were not well-socialized since they allegedly stayed at the home without much human contact. There should never have been so many dogs at one residence in this area and we are hoping that we can encourage authorities to implement a law that limits the numbers of dogs/pets allowed in any single home. Having 20++ animals in one home is allegedly leaning on hoarding and much more than one person or a family can handle and care for. Help us in our efforts, through the signing and sharing of this petition to ensure that a law be implemented, passed and enforced in Ohio limiting how many dogs and pets any person can own and care for.

Ohio Legislators – We are asking you to implement, pass and enforce a law that limits the number of dogs/pets in each single family home. The law should specify that people should only have a specific number of animals that they can comfortably care for both physically and financially, providing the appropriate responsible needs for each and every animal within that home. Such a law could possibly avoid hoarding and excessive numbers of animals such as in this particular case.
