Stop the proposed solar projects and municipal land leases near McAdoo’s Lane.

RES Canada (RES) and Hydromega Services Inc. (Hydromega) are seeking to establish two ground mount solar projects in the vicinity of McAdoo’s Lane. RES and Hydromega have also expressed interest in leasing two City owned parcels adjacent to the prospective solar projects. Potentially, the unopened road allowance at Burbrook Road could be required as an access point for the proposed sites.

Many parcels of private land as well as the unopened road allowance At Burrbrook Road are heavily used by Kingston's cycling club, MTB Kingston. Some 550 members and their many guests, ranging from recreational riders to some of Canada's finest, internationally competitive, elite athletes use the Burbrook Road allowance as the interconnect between parcels of land that they have secured access to.

Additional Challenges of Solar Operations at this Location
• Significant setbacks from existing explosives stored on-site will be required, limiting solar development potential.
• Recent contamination issues are a concern, particularly as they relate to stormwater management and potential impacts associated with stropping the natural features of the site.
• These properties and surrounding area contain a variety of natural heritage features including Provincially Significant Wetland, Significant and Contributory Woodland, Valleyland and Linkages and Corridors.
• There is a known cemetery on the property which, to our knowledge, has not been delineated.
• A portion of 1174 McAdoo’s Lane is a site plan controlled area which regulates a waste transfer and processing station.

Should the proposed solar projects come to fruition, the future of MTB Kingston, one of Kingston's largest athletic clubs will be in peril.
