Animals are maimed and killed by hunters, and families live in fear of these armed men who rule rural areas WITH THE BLESSING OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENTS. Please read and sign the petition to stop hunter terrorism.  (PLEASE CLICK ON THE "PETITION" LINK TO THE RIGHT OF "OVERVIEW" ABOVE.)

LAWLESS LAW ENFORCEMENT MUST NOT BE TOLERATED!

A South Carolina property owner reported the following:

I noticed a pile of corn near my pond.   It was obvious bait left by a hunter to lure deer to the killing field.   The pond is not far from the house and I picked up a great deal of the corn and noticed a small light in front of my truck.  It looked like a flash light, but it could have been a light from a gun because I felt that someone was watching me.  It was dark (just after sun down).   I left without picking up all the corn, but left soap, moth balls, etc., on the pile of corn. The next morning, there were several gunshots heard near my parents' home around 4am. (Obviously a warning to me)   It got so bad my dog jumped in bed with me though my parents could hear the shots better than I could because the sound was closer to their bedroom.

Hunters are friends with the local sheriff so it’s futile to call them.   The police would have done absolutely nothing except tell them I called.   The situation is getting worse instead of better with these hoodlums with guns.  Calling anyone in this state only makes the situation worse.  Believe me, I've tried everything including taking these people to court, calling the head of DNR, trying to get legislation drafted.

If the state is not going to take action, then help must be obtained from the federal government. level.

Coincidentally, the New York Times story just broke about sheriffs across the country who refuse to enforce gun laws, especially in rural areas, it becomes all the more imperative to rid law enforcement departments of these employees.  Taxes pay their salaries and the public demands and needs protection from law enforcement agencies.

The audacity of sheriffs who blatantly refuse to enforce gun laws is shocking, and these individuals need to be removed from office and replaced with federal and state personnel who WILL ENFORCE LAWS IN AN UNBIASED FASHION.

What was not discussed in this article is not only the unwillingness of law enforcement officers to stop hunters from committing illegal acts, but the fact that there are very few officers in the field.  Those who are on duty intimidate residents who want shooting around their homes stopped.

The government sets hunters (armed men) on wild animals and residents in rural areas just about all year long.   Yet, THEY ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE LAW ENFORCEMENT.    Although this is true for every state, we are presenting just one example of a government-designated hunting region in South Carolina.

The area is called “Region 2”, and is comprised of 13 counties that total 8,200 square miles.  Shockingly, THE STATE PROVIDES MERELY 41 ENVIRONMENTAL POLICE OFFICERS FOR THE ENTIRE REGION TO PATROL THOUSANDS OF ARMED MEN WHO ARE DRINKING, SHOOTING AT ANYTHING THAT MOVES, RUNNING DOGS, TERRORIZING ANIMALS AND THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE AREA.

To get an idea of how inadequate 41 law enforcement officers is for an area the size of 8,200 square miles, consider that THE ENTIRE STATE OF NEW JERSEY IS almost that size!   Imagine New Jersey with a mere 41 law enforcement officers.  Welcome criminals!

MAKING MATTERS WORSE, THESE 41 OFFICERS work for agencies that put 180,000 hunters into rural areas to terrorize wild animals and intimidate residents who get in their way.  When these officers are called for help because hunters are threatening homes, children, pets, and wild animals, the callers are often charged with “Hunter Harassment,” meaning that the residents are harassing the hunters!  Often the people charged with hunter harassment are women living alone, the elderly, and minorities.

One man told us he moved from the Bronx in New York to a rural area upstate to get away from gun crime and was shocked to see armed men  crossing his property.  He called the police and was told that it was LEGAL.

When these armed animal killers discharged their firearms, his children were so frightened that they hid under the dining room table.

Until the government is both able and willing to provide UNBIASED protection to residents and wild animals, hunting must be suspended indefinitely.  South Carolina’s Governor Haley must put hundreds of law enforcement officers into the woods to ensure the safety and welfare of rural residents and protect wild animals from illegal acts.   The poor deer in the photo was shot by waterfowl hunters just for the hell of it.   This poor animal is still hobbling around in deep snow.  Shooting a deer with birdshot while waterfowl hunting is illegal, but who is there to stop it?
