I just don’t understand our justice system when murderers, robbers and gang members are still roaming the streets with repercussions; yet they arrest a young special-needs child and slap him with felonies?? An eight-year old child ran away from his special needs school in Michigan and did not want to be caught. Because of his confrontational behavior with the police, the boy is being charged with two felony charges. The cops do not want to press charges but the prosecutors want to push for criminal charges; felony charges against a young eight-year old special needs boy by the name of Edward Hart!
Edward left his school, Hillside Learning and Behavior Center in Allegan, while two teachers and the principal chased after him. As one of the teachers caught up with the boy, police were called to escort them both back to school. When the officer asked him what his name was, he cursed at the cop and began assaulting him.
Edward’s step-dad states that “He has special needs, he has anger issues. They know this, and they’re going to throw him in the back of a cop car all by himself?” When thrown in the back of the cop car, Edward broke a camera. Step-dad continues, “If they had him under control, why didn’t they ride with him in the back of this cop car so this incident would have never (taken) place?”
Can you believe the prosecutors are charging Edward with destruction of property and resisting arrest; charges set for an eight-year old special needs child. On top of that, his parents are punishing the child rather than anyone looking into and help him with his deep inner problems. They gave him timeout in a chair, separated from loved ones, sold his Nintendo and banned him from TV. This young boy should have never been charged with felonies. He is obviously asking for help by acting out and no one is listening. Instead, you and all involved are setting him up for continued failure, eventually as a teen and an adult.

Michigan Law Enforcement & Judicial System – You need to drop any and all charges against eight-year old special needs boy, Edward Hart. This is a special troubled young man that needs help and pressing charges against him that will follow him his entire life will not mold him into a respectable young man someday. This is horrifying for this boy to experience and you need to drop all charges and encourage his parents and school to get this boy all the help he needs.
