Require Certified Personal Trainers to meet state regulated guidelines NOW!

Currently in Pennsylvania, there is no "bar" set for certified personal trainers/coaches/group exercise class instructors to meet collectively, regarding education in human anatomy (the individual body parts), physiology(how body parts function) and kinesiology (the study of human movement). What does that mean? It means that they could be teaching you how to exercise your body, without knowing what any of its parts are, what they are called or more importantly, what their functions are. How scary is that? This needs to change now. The industry is filling up with trainers/coaches/group exercise class instructors that became "certified" in a weekend seminar costing anywhere from $50 to $1000 or more. So in a single weekend, they are qualified to teach everything from functional exercise to weightlifting and complicated olympic lifting without ever having to pass a college level anatomy/physiology course or a basic kinesiology class. It should also be noted that currently in Pennsylvania, there is no requirement for group exercise instructors to be certified as personal trainers and that should be a basic requirement also. If you believe that it should be required by all existing personal trainers/coaches/group class exercise instructors and all future trainers/coaches/group exercise class instructors to have these prerequisites completed before working with individuals then I urge you to sign this petition NOW so it can be forwarded to state lawmakers to force a needed change in the industry. This is an issue of protecting the safety of the public and forcing a state required level of education as there is in all other jobs in the health industry such as doctors, physical therapists, gym teachers and dietitians.
