Stop TVA overly agressive tree cutting!

  • by: Knox Trees
  • recipient: Tennessee Valley Authority

TVA now has a policy of cutting or killing vegetation that could grow to more than 15 feet high along its utility right of way. TVA has begun cutting already. All of its 15,900 miles of power-line easement in seven states will be cut unless something is done to change the overly aggressive clearing policy.

This TVA policy could have major impacts, such as
--damage to private property value
--damage to public roadway appearance
--damage to scenic vistas
--destruction of bird and wildlife habitats
--increase in soil erosion
--damage to air quality

A federal lawsuit is pending, but in the meantime thousands of trees are being cut. To help stop this overly aggressive tree-cutting TODAY, sign this petition asking for immediate TVA policy changes:
1. Cut or clear only vegetation that could grow to higher than 40 feet
2. Provide 60 day advance notice to private property owners
3. Clear full width of easement only under lines carrying 200 Kilovolts or higher
4. Continue providing property owners the option to maintain their own  landscaping by pruning it to the allowed height
