Demand Transit Surveillance

Every school bus should be equiped with GPS units that allows the District and parents to track the locations of school buses in real-time. This helps ensure on-time service for students. By the summer of 2019 Michigan should install cameras on all school buses, which would protect students and drivers. Cameras should record activity and be capable of recording audio on board buses but the recordings should only be stored for a short period. Recordings should be used to investigate incidents, such as accidents or safety allegations, and should help ensure safe travel for all students and staff. Michigan should also post notices on the buses about the technology so families and students are aware. The system should be called Smart Drive and be similar to the systems already in place on other school bus programs across the country.

There have been many incidents of impaired bus drivers, out of control students, and false allegations as well. Having monitoring systems on buses will help to easily find the truth in every situation and deal with them appropiately. Everyone involved in transportation should be confident, safe, and comfortable during transport.
