Make 24-hour Live-in Care Affordable for Seniors

  • by: Patricia Cruz
  • recipient: The Honourable Shirley Bond, BC Minister Responsible for Labour
A recent ruling by the Employment Standards Branch has made affordable 24-hour live-in care impossible!
According to the ESB, private citizens or private agencies must now pay a live-in caregiver for the full 24 hours that they are on DUTY, even though they only actually WORK for 8 to 10 hours. Paying them a flat daily, weekly or monthly rate is now illegal, which will all but TRIPLE the daily cost of live-in care from an average of $145.00 to nearly $400.00 - per day!
Help us stop this insanity! The Ministry of Health wants our seniors to stay at home as long as possible - the Ministry of Labour is making that impossible!
