Enforce Pain Relief for Preemies!

Premature babies-the weakest, most vulnerable members of our society-are subjected to painful tests and procedures and often given no pain relief. In the past, it was thought that these children were too young to feel pain. We now know that they can. Pain relief need not be medication: alternative relief methods include swaddling, pacifiers, and skin-to-skin contact. Pain medication is often needed for surgeries, but it is not always given. Adults are given pain relief after surgery; why not children? Please sign this petition to provide the weakest and most helpless of our children with comfort.

Dear Dr. Murthy,

Premature babies are subjected to painful tests and procedures and often given no pain relief. In the past, it was thought that these children were too young to feel pain. We now know that they can. Please take steps to ensure that relief is given to premature babies for painful procedures.

Thank you.
