Tell the American Kennel Club to Stop Supporting Puppy Mills!

The American Kennel Club (AKC), best known for promoting the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, has a history of fighting legislation designed to penalize bad breeders.

A 2012 report found that the organization opposed over 80 anti-cruelty laws for puppy mills, and the latest findings show they've opposed over 150 laws. This means they've been doubling down on their efforts to protect breeders at their dogs' expense.

Wild Bill, a champion cattle dog who once won ribbons at AKC events, was recently found starving in a rusty crate, standing in his own waste, in a Mississippi puppy mill called Bleu Moon Cattle Dogs. 60 other dogs were found there suffering along with him. The SPCA rescued all the dogs, and the mill's owner plead guilty to abuse charges. Strangely enough, an AKC inspector had visited the mill days before and issued the owner a clean inspection bill. Worse, they once granted the owner it's highest honor -- the Breeder of Merit status.

AKC is clearly putting their own financial interests over the safety of dogs they profess to love. Please sign the petition to urge the AKC to stop supporting puppy mills!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with your efforts to oppose legislation to prevent cruelty against dogs, and with your history of enabling bad breeders.

We believe that you should use your influence to support healthy, happy dogs and to penalize breeders who give dog shows a bad name. We respectfully urge you to stop supporting puppy mills! Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
