Tell U.S. Prisons to Improve Detox Standards for Inmates!

Drug addicts are dying in prisons within weeks of their arrests. They're not dying from overdoses, though. They're dying from withdrawal.

Since 2015, at least four inmates have died in jail from opioid withdrawal. One of these was 32-year-old David Stojcevski. On the outside, he was enrolled in a drug treatment program. He was denied drug treatment after being jailed for a careless driving offense. He died from withdrawal during his 30-day sentence.

Though the effects of opioid withdrawal -- which include vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration -- may not seem life-threatening, they can be in a jail environment with limited access to medical care. Young people with minor offenses are dying slow, painful deaths in jail because their conditions are being ignored.

Please sign the petition to urge the Federal Bureau of Prisons to enforce detox guidelines for all jails and prisons!

I am concerned that drug addicts are dying in prisons from withdrawal within weeks of their arrests.

I respectfully urge you to enforce detox guidelines for all jails and prisons. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this petition.
