Save the Icelandic Goat from Extinction!

The beautiful, long haired Icelandic goat is the rarest of all goats, and at one point fell to a population under 90 worldwide. Thanks to the efforts of Jóhanna Bergmann Þorvaldsdóttir, a former nurse who now operates the only Icelandic goat breeding farm Háafell, their numbers have grown to over 800. Some of the goats from Háafell have been featured on Game of Thrones, and visitors are welcome to see some of the farm's friendliest goats in person.

But now the farm is facing foreclosure and may be forced to send all their animals -- a fourth of the world's population of Icelandic goats -- to slaughter. These special goats will face extinction once again without Háafell's breeding efforts.

Government regulations are banning the raw goat milk Þorvaldsdóttir uses to create traditional soaps and dairy products that finance the farm, despite the large demand for these items, and their necessity to finance the farm. Þorvaldsdóttir sacrificed her career as a nurse to save these beautiful animals, and these overzealous regulations could cause a species to go extinct! Please sign the petition to urge Iceland's government to let Þorvaldsdóttir create and sell raw goat milk products in her efforts to save the species.

We, the undersigned, are concerned about the future of the Icelandic goat.

As you know, the Icelandic goat is the rarest of all goats, and at one point fell to a population under 90 worldwide. Thanks to the efforts of Jóhanna Bergmann Þorvaldsdóttir, a former nurse who now operates the only Icelandic goat breeding farm Háafell, their numbers have grown to over 800. Some of the goats from Háafell have been featured on Game of Throwns, and visitors are welcome to see some of the farm's friendliest goats in person.

But now the farm is facing foreclosure and may be forced to send all their animals -- a fourth of the world's population of Icelandic goats -- to slaughter. These special goats will face extinction once again without Háafell's breeding efforts.

We understand that government regulations are banning the raw goat milk Þorvaldsdóttir uses to create traditional soaps and dairy products that finance the farm, despite the large demand for these items, and their necessity to finance the farm. Þorvaldsdóttir sacrificed her career as a nurse to save these beautiful animals, and these overzealous regulations could cause a species to go extinct. We respectfully urge you to let Þorvaldsdóttir create and sell raw goat milk products in her efforts to save the species.
