Save Shimmer housing estate: Divert the planned HS2 train route!

Residents of a much-loved housing estate face losing their homes thanks to reckless development plans. Please sign this petition to save Shimmer estate from demolition.

The development plans, for a high-speed railway, were drawn up from a map that didn't even feature their relatively new estate. But when a representative of the community contacted the HS2 railway development planners and alerted them to the housing estate, the route was not altered.

Residents have expressed anger at the proposals, and say that despite being a relatively new community they are a close one.

One family described how they were told the news just three weeks after moving in. Leigh Smith said: "We used absolutely every bit of money we could get to buy this, it's our first home. I'm just devastated. We're all distraught. I've never seen my husband like it."

Mrs Smith wept as she described how the plans have upset her autistic adult son. "It isn't just going to be a case of just moving. It's just going to be absolutely horrific. It was horrific to move here."

Please sign this petition to demand the diversion of the HC2 train route to save Shimmer estate. Together we can stand up for local communities and demand that developers and our government listen to their needs.

HS2 ltd and the UK government:

The plans for the HS2 train route will involve the needless destruction of a new housing estate, Shimmer estate. This will cause a huge amount for the community that live there.

Residents include a family with an adult autistic son, who find moving house incredibly hard. They found out the community is facing demolition just three weeks after moving in. This is the first home they have ever owned.
