The 50% Pass Mark Must be Reinstated in South Africa, Now!

  • by: Cara V
  • recipient: Angie Motshekga, Minister of Basic Education

South African basic education pass marks have reached an unacceptable low. If the children of today are only learning 20-30% of their work, how can we expect them to be equipped for the university level of education or even the working world? The shocking pass mark is creating a generation of people with limited options in life which in turn creates a greater amount of unemployment as well as a decline in the country as a whole. The education system should be encouraging students to reach a level of at least 50% so they would be equipped with the skills necessary in today's world.

Sign this petition to ensure a better future for South Africa. Education is the foundation a country stands on. Sign this petition so that your children one day have a stable society to live in. Sign this petition for the children of today who are being robed of their chances because they are told 20% is okay.

To the minister of Basic Education: take action in this issue, before something worse than the violent feesmustfall moment happens. The country is unbalanced and children's futures are at stake. Raise the pass mark to at least 50% for all grades. Pass rates are not important. You are dangering the futures of children to mantain a good self image. This is unacceptable.
