Let David Parton and Other Animal Lovers Care for Stray Cats

Recently, David Parton spent nine days in jail rather than pay fines he had accumulated for feeding stray cats in Gainesville.

Such kindness should not be punished with fines or imprisonment. The injunction against feeding stray animals needs to be lifted. There are much better ways to deal with homeless cats and dogs.

We the undersigned ask that you abolish the section of your animal code that penalizes people for trying to help stray pets. It was unfair and unjust to incarcerate David Parton for performing an act of kindness. Instead, work with Alley Cat Allies and other animal welfare groups to help Gainesville's homeless cats and dogs.
