As of June 2014, the European Union allows its members to decide for themselves whether to ban GMO crops. Now that the E.U. is letting countries decide, we need to let our leaders know that we don't want GMOs!
Only five E.U. countries grow GM crops as of now -- Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Portugal and Spain. But still, just one type of GM crop was previously approved by the E.U., compared to 96 licenses in the U.S.! But now the E.U. has changed its rules and allows its member countries to make their own decisions when it comes to approving GMOs. GM policy is already being pushed through in the U.K. GMO supporters are jumping at the chance to get GM crops approved.
There's a whole host of issues surrounding GMOs. GM crops harm the environment and they decrease nutritional value. Because GM crops are chemical resistant, stronger and more toxic herbicides are sprayed without regard. We don't want these harmful GM crops in our countries!
Now that our countries have the opportunity to decide on their own GM policy, we need to ensure that Europe remains GMO free. Act now to let your leaders know that you want to keep GMOs out of the E.U.!
