Thank Illinois for Banning the Shark Fin Trade

As of January 1st, 2013, placed a ban against the trade, sale or distribution of shark fins.

Millions of sharks are killed each year to harvest their fins for soup- an Asian delicacy. Some shark populations have declined by as much as 99 percent in recent decades because of fin harvesting- making this cruel practice both devistating and unsustainable.

Not only can such an industry lead to the extinction of many shark species, it is a barbarically cruel practice- fishermen cut the fins off of live sharks, throwing their bodies back in the water to sink and drown- unable to swim.

Thank the Governor of Illinios for signing a bill into law to ban the cruel, unsustainable distrubution of shark fins in Illinois.
