Stop Killing Pythons in Florida- Relocate them!

The Burmese Python is a snake listed as a vunerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The Burmese Python native to Southeat Asia, but it has found its way through the pet trade into the United States. In Flordia, many of these snakes have either escaped captivity, or been release by their owners once they found the snakes too much to care for. Now they have become considered an invasive species in Florida, and breeding in the Everglades.

Recently, a snake hunt took place in Florida, the "Python Challenge" in which the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission encourged the public to capture and kill as many snakes as they could and will holding The 2013 Python Challenge Awareness and Awards Event on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at Zoo Miami.

The National Geographical News has given the opinion that "Florida's Great Snake Hunt is a Cheap Stunt"

Zoos should be about conservation- not awarding people for killing vunerable species. Relocate future captured Burmese Python back to their natural habitat instead of encourging the public to kill this vunerable species.
