Recently a baby was killed in a hot oven due to neglectful parents leaving her unattended with her older toddlers siblings. The toddlers placed her in the oven and made it "hot" and the poor 19-month old died from severe burns. There is obviously a larger issue with the irresponsible parents and they clearly are not equipped to have children....but the poor child's life could have been spared if the oven had been child-proofed.
A simple modification to the oven/stove could have prevented this horrific tragedy. We need to push to have manufacturers build in child-proof controls and legislation to mandate it to new and existing ovens/stoves.
I have a 19-month old baby and reading an article about a toddler the same age as mine burning to death in a hot oven due to being left unattended with 3-year old siblings has left me traumatized.
We may not be able to cure "bad parenting" but we can certainly require mandatory baby-proofing of oven and stoves to prevent unnecessary injuries and death to small children.
Lets move to have manufacturers childproof controls on ovens and stoves and force legislation to make it mandatory for new and existing ovens/stoves.
