The Tiger mortality is still at an all-time high because not enough is being done to stop the killing of these animals.

Nagarjunasagar Srisa-ilam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) in AP and Telangana has seen a high mortality rate of the tiger that is spreading all across India. According to wildlife experts, poaching, killing and skinning of the tiger is due to a lack of law enforcement and surveillance. Along with AP and Telangana, other areas such as TN and Kamataka also report a high rate of tiger killings. The culprits are never found and brought to justice.

Police recently arrested a culprit that was guilty of poaching and killing tigers but wildlife activist Devidas Manghnani says, “We have reports that the culprit who skinned the tiger is free. Tigers are openly killed and government agencies fail to catch the culprits. A seized skin indicates the department’s failure. Additionally,The forest department lacks focus. The morale of ground level staffers are low. They complained to me that higher ups do not make rounds.”

Field director of the NSTR Mr. Pandey states that “There are no organized gangs in the state. If it is an organized gang they will sell it in three days. In this case they stocked it for three months. As we have stepped up monitoring the reporting of tiger deaths have increased." Obviously not enough monitoring is being done to protect the tigers in their natural habitat. Other issues that contributes to the decline in the tiger population is contaminated waterholes, denial of compensation to villagers and attacks on cubs by wild dog attacks.

An experts says “The tribal's’ right to compensation in case of wildlife attacks is rejected by officials. This is alienating the common man." Without compensation, When they don't receive compensation they poison carcasses of cattle and it kills animals like tigers, hyenas, boars, jackals and vultures at one stroke. "The population explosion of bulls, monkeys and wild dogs is posing a threat to wildlife." India needs to do more to protect all wildlife like the beautiful tiger. Please sign and share this petition in an effort to encourage India to further take steps in the implementation and enforcement of their laws against tiger poaching, trading and killing. The Tiger mortality is still at an all-time high because not enough is being done to stop the killing of these animals.

India Government Officials, Gram Sabhas and local stakeholders - Do a lot more to enforce the Wildlife Protection Act that was implemented in 2006 and get more involved in the protection of the tiger in your country. The numbers of tigers are declining by huge numbers. More surveillance cameras and law enforcement staff need to be placed in the most frequent areas of tiger hunting, killing, poaching and skinning. Stop turning the other cheek; monitor the forests, parks and other tiger habitat to catch and prosecute all offenders to the highest extent of the law. Until you implement and enforce stricter laws as stated, your tigers will become extinct!
