Protect the North French River (Please identify yourself as Moose Cree if you are and/or a Youth, th

Target:
Moose Cree First Nation Chief and Council

We are not opposed to a winter road but we do not want it crossing the North French River or anywhere on the east side of the Moose River because it is one of the last undeveloped areas in the province.

WHY WE DON%u2019T WANT A ROAD NEAR THE NORTH FRENCH RIVER:

-       it is one of the last clean rivers in Ontario %u2013 the Mattagami, Abitibi and Missinaibi have all been impacted by development.

-       there is no development near the North French River and we should not have any kind of development near this watershed.

-       We want to leave clean water for the future.

-       We want to protect the river.

-       This is a river we can still drink water from.

We want a delay on the ratification vote until the following is addressed:

-       at least 2 more general membership meetings %u2013 one for information and one for consultation.

-       the proposed route background information and reports provided to the membership before the next general membership information meetings.

-       the minutes from previous meetings and information sessions provided to the membership to the general membership consultation meeting(s).

Please consult with all parties involved and consider all options available. Scientific assessments must be carried out thoroughly as this is a decision that must be taken seriously. Any short-sighted, uninformed, and unexamined actions will lead to irreversible consequences. Thank you David Visanuvimol, PhD candidate, Youth

The North French, as well as it's sister rivers in the same watershed, including the Wakwayowkastic R., would all be greatly affected by any road that is allowed to cross it. Canada needs protected areas with pure clean water, and no development, not just for recreation, but also for diversity of ecosystems. Please do not allow this area to be affected in the same way that the Mattagami, Abitibi and Missinaibi have all been impacted by development.

They need to reconsider the location of the road, I am a Moose Cree Youth 28 years old. My late Father loved travelling this river and killed many moose. Along with my Great-grandfathers/Grandmothers before me, I honor them in support of this petition in the effort to protect the North French River from any development and to keep its natural condition as a river. I have many memories growing up on this river along with my family, i have grown to love hunting & fishing because of this. The river is a part of me, part of my family, part of my commuity.

Nancy Corston. 19. MCFN. I have been attending ceremonies along French River since I was a little girl. I've learned a lot about my culture by going to these ceremonies. Everything is sacred along this river and anything we have used for these ceremonies comes from these clean, untouched lands. That is why I am signing this petition.

Why can't the road continue to be developed in the same area as it was previously was, along the tracks? Why develop a new one in a new location? I vote NO to this Proposed We-Tum Winter Road option.

I have guided canoe trips down the Moose River and brought overseas customers into the Moose Cree communities. I really would appreciate if the band takes the best care of their remaining wilderness: it's in all our interest to take the option that is least damaging to your land.
