My wife, brother and I have recently become targets of harassment and buffoonery by The Daniel's Corporation that does business out of Mississauga ON, located at 2885 Argentia Road, Unit#1.
We live in a townhouse condominium complex located at 233 Duskywing Way in Oakville ON. While the corporation has posted signs asking cars to slow down because "Children at Play" we continue to be harassed because our son plays hockey in the common area with other friends from the complex. The wording used to defend their claims is that the common area should only be used to egress and digress (come and go). Upon further clarification we are essentially not allowed to stand on our driveway, park our car in the driveway, or stand on our lawn to have a talk with a neighbor.
They are asking that we pay $1000 for their inconvenience which will be added to our condo fees that are already well above what they should be for what the corporation provides in terms of service. (Which is not anything more than plowing the street and mowing the lawn once a week in the summer). They have also tacked on charges to melt the snow so it doesn't take up "common area" in the street, but have never used this machine while we all still pay for this service.
When I enquired to why they would have signs posted warning cars to slow down due to children at play if children are not allowed to play, they let us know that is to deter speeding, and not an allowance for children to play. Since this letter, I have decided against using my toaster to toast bread, using my shower to clean myself, or driving my car as a means of transportation because it seems that this whole time I have had common sense all wrong.
Playing hockey in the streets was part of my upbringing in Canada. It was a way to bond with friends. We were always respectful of cars, in fact we would yell CAR so everyone would move to let the cars through. We want our children to have the same opportunity to build friendships outside, while promoting healthy activities instead of sitting in front of the TV or computer all day.
Perhaps Daniel's Corporation could use some of the money they are saving every month to put speed bumps in the complex and prevent the individuals that choose to drive 60+ KM's per hour while my kid is playing tag or hockey with friends instead of punishing the people living here that simply want their children to be outside and HAVE FUN!
