Demand better labeling on food packing for people with severe nut allergies!

If you have an allergy you will know the struggle it is in everyday life. Food shopping shouldn’t be a scary or daunting process. I have suffered with a severe nut allergy from a young age, I have to read every label, every package, I don’t eat out or order takeaway, and I dread every single meal to be perfectly honest. When you see a label 90% of products say 'May contain nuts'This leaves me with a dilemma, as it doesn’t actually directly say whether it has nuts in or not, but clearly there is a risk. As this warning is on so many food labels I leave very frustrated and angry. It would be so much easier if either the risk was reduced in factory's that we did not need the may contain warning or that the may contain warning isn’t used inappropriately by companies who just want to cover their backs. Please sign and help me tell food standards agency that better labelling for people with food allergies would make quality of life better and reduce anxiety.

Thank you.

Dear FSA

I am writing to you to demand better labelling on food packaging for people with severe nut allergies. Living with a severe nut allergy in itself is hard enough but knowing that it is hard to trust companies and their products makes life very difficult. 'May contain nuts' the common warning I see on 90% of food products when I go food shopping, it is very frustrating to see this warning on so many food labels. It leaves me not knowing whether I can eat that product or not. As of course something even with the may contain warning may be safe to eat, but you never know and cannot take the risk. I feel that I’m limited on what I can eat compared to other people without allergies. It would be so much easier if either the risk was reduced in factory's that we did not need the may contain warning or that the may contain warning isn’t used inappropriately by companies. Better labelling for people with food allergies would make quality of life better and reduce anxiety.

Thank you.
