U.S. House of Representatives: Help people help charities

Every year, Americans generously donate millions of dollars, and tens of thousands of hours to needy charities. Unfortunately, many people who would like to donate money simply cannot afford to, because they are struggling to pay their bills. And others who would like to donate their time are unable to do so, because they are working two jobs to support their families.

That's why I started a non-profit called "Give Four". It's goal is to encourage companies to allow their employees to volunteer up to four hours per week at the charity of their choice, while still getting paid their regular salaries. Their employers could then deduct the monetary value of that time from their Federal taxes. There's only one problem; under the current laws, companies are allowed to make tax deductible financial contributions, but not tax deductible service contributions. So I'm asking Congress to change the law.

With your help, charities like the Red Cross, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and St. Jude Children's Hospital will gain thousands of much needed volunteers. Employees will be able to do volunteer service, without having to take time away from their families. And employers will be able to give back to their communities, without losing any money. Everybody will win.
