Give students service or let them go home!

As of September 2014 students (majority seniors) of Fairfax High School have been highly upset due to a new policy, which prohibits seniors from having home periods. Many students have taken courses over in adult school and summer school to have the option of taking a home period. Others have gone as far as taking college course to get ahead in college credits because they've already completed or are current enrolled in the required courses to graduate. Throughout the months September-December, students have found the work they did is irrelevant due to all students being forced to have six periods; all home periods have been taken away.

Some students have come to an understanding with the new policy. While other students have chosen to opt out and take a service period, helping out teachers and office administrators alike. Although this was taken as a fair trade off second semester 2015, all service periods will be taken away unless specific and irrelevant requirements are fulfilled. This consists of all CST scores in Math and English being proficient. Also student must have no unsatisfactory marks among other frivilious requirements ( see fairfax High School o LAUSD for more info). The problem is these students have no choice, but to take elective courses they don't need. If a student doesn't need a course what then prompts them to do well? Most likely nothing, and should student's gpa's be effected by this? Especially seniors applying for college!

What I ask is if you would simply sign this petition to show support for these students by acknowledging the hard work they have put into becoming ahead of their required credits. Do not let their countless hours of summer school and adult school go to waste. These students have worked hard to one day have home periods or at least help out the school by obtaining a service period. I ask you once again to sign this petition with utmost sincerity at heart I truly know how they feel because I am one of them-Jordan Worthy.
