Petition to put an End to Curfew

Curfew is used throughout our lives, except it is usually referred to as bed time growing up. As girls who are learning about being women, curfew encourages conformity to a rule, rather than developing good judgment. "I feel like academic achievement comes more from overall support from the chapter not from things like curfew." - An Active Member Curfew not only has negative connotations attached to it but it prohibits girls from studying in a studious environment. Gamma Phi Beta should be a support system for everything we do in college. "Those on curfew have lives outside of gamma phi such as working late and extra curricular activities. This makes it hard on them not being able to study, especially if they are stuck in loud house unable to go anywhere." - An Active Member In our standing rules it states that members should be active in at least one outside organization. At the end of Gamma Phi Beta events and our extra curricular events girls want to go to the library and sometimes aren't allowed because of curfew or lack of notice to scholarship. "I have been on both sides of the spectrum. I used to judge girls on their inability to make grades and then it happened to me. Curfew not only made me feel worse about myself it constantly had me questioning myself as an adult." - An Active Member I propose an alternative to the several methods we have tried in the past. Our loyalty circles are not being used to their full potential. Instead of organizing loyalty groups by IO order scholarship should organize them with a leader not only in academics but in Gamma Phi Beta. Scholarship would set up a group me for each loyalty circle and in order for women to complete the hours they would have to set up times where 3 or more members from their study group could attend. If we decide to keep the study app it would also allow for accountability for the app. Study groups are proven to have positive effects and there are a plethora of study group tips online. This loyalty study group would not only encourage learning but sisterhood. Sisters that normally wouldn't be together would have to come together to study and in turn would create a positive atmosphere inside of Gamma Phi Beta.
