Tell NY- Stop Killing Deer on Ecological Preserve

  • by: Animal Advocates
  • recipient: President of Vassar College Catharine Bond Hill

Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, is paying between $8,000 - $10,000 to the tax funded USDA Wildlife Services to slaughter deer on their Farm & Ecological Preserve.

A fence would prevent conflicts between people and the deer, and be more cost effective as this is not the first time Vassar College has paid to kill deer. In 2010, 64 deer were killed when Vassar College paid at least $10,000- and appears to have done nothing to address the alleged overpopulation.

Baiting the deer all winter by supplying food, only to gain their trust so they can be easliy shot is cruel and inhumane when the problem could have been completely avoided by a fence.

Tell Vassar College it is their responsiblity to fence their property to protect it. Wildlife should not have to pay the consequence with their lives because of the College's neglect and failure to manage property parameters.
