Stop high density townhouses and change of zoning.

Attention Bayport residents:

There is a meeting at Islip Town Hall on Thursday February 5th at 7 PM regarding the property on McConnell Ave. Jim Tsunis is presenting high density town homes on both 337 and 347 McConnell Ave. We believe that 30 town homes is far too dense for a property of about 4 acres. For a myriad of reasons our small town cannot handle this development. It is also unacceptable that he wants to change zoning for a piece of property that contains a Victorian home that is over 100 years old. For under 100 years it has been a single family residence. If we allow Jim Tsunis to change this zoning we open the door for more of the same all over Bayport.

Please make every effort to come to the meeting and invite your neighbors. If we fill the building our planning board will understand how we feel about the integrity of our town. Please do not assume that if you do not come that others will pick up the slack. A large crowd will send the message that we are strong.

We have attached a petition that we hope you will not only sign but have your neighbors sign as well. If you are able to fill the petition with signatures you can simply drop it in our mailbox at 325 McConnell Ave before February 5th. You can even send the petition back via email if that works better for you.

We had such a good turnout for the first meeting that we were able to make Tsunis go back to the drawing board. Let’s show Mr. Tsunis who does not live in Bayport, just how strong and passionate we are about our small town.

The commissioner of the planning board Rich Zaploski lives in our town. Please send him an email letting him know what you think of placing high density townhouses in Bayport. Here is his email.

Thank you

We the undersigned neighbors stand in opposition to the proposed 30 townhouses that requires a change of zone.  This opposition is based upon the fact these high density townhouses do not fit in with the nature and character of the surrounding properties that are privately owned single family residences mostly on parcels of land an acre and more.  The addition of extra cars, a sewage treatment plant and the destruction of an 1876 Victorian home are all detrimental to the quality of life that our neighborhood currently enjoys. In addition we believe a change of zone from Residence A to Residence C (337 McConnell Avenue) an unfair consequence to a community that has known it to be a single family residence for over 100 years.

Hello Friends and Neighbors,
Just a reminder that our meeting at the Islip Town Hall (655 Main Street Islip) is this Thursday at 7:30PM. We are hoping to pack the house. A large turnout is the best way to send the message that we do not support high density town homes and changes in zoning which can forever impact our community in a negative way.
Hope to see you on Thursday Night!

Hello Concerned residents
The progress on the petition has been great, but we could use many more people to sign. If you could send this link to other friends you have in the community it would help the effort. Please use the attached link.
