The government shutdown is hurting everyone in this country in a wide variety of ways. The conservatives in Congress are hurting their own constituencies.
Every state and congressional district has these affects (in no particular order):
- veterans that need and deserve benefits;
- people unable to close on FHA mortgages;
- some of the 800,000 federal employees not getting paid;
- hundreds of thousands more state workers and non-profit employees not getting paid because approved federal grants are stopped;
- Border Patrol officers put on furloughs;
- school lunches for children of the working poor stopped;
- energy assistance stopped;
- child care for working poor stopped resulting in the parents not being able to work;
- senior citizen services stopped;
- and the list goes on and on.
Congress: Stop shooting yourselves in the foot! Stop the insanity, do your jobs, and pass the budget!
