Petition for the Mount Holyoke College Registrar to Update their Transcript Request System

OVERVIEW

Enabling Mount Holyoke College alumni to electronically request and pay for copies of our transcripts will grant us greater access to education and career advancement. The College should modernize its systems to remain competitive with other institutions.

OUR PETITION

In order to get a copy of your transcript, Mount Holyoke College requires alumni to mail or fax in a written request form, and mail in either $4 in US cash or a $4 check. In our world of modern technology, and with a global community of alumni, this process is inexcusably outdated. A transcript is a requirement not only for further education beyond undergrad, but is frequently required when applying to jobs both in the US and abroad.

Mount Holyoke's process is not only a potential hindrance to education and career advancement, but is discriminatory against alumni outside the US who may have limited access to US currency or a reliable postal service. We, the Mount Holyoke alumni community, urge the Office of the Registrar to adopt an online system for requesting official transcripts, and to allow for the free digital download of unofficial transcripts.

Many peer institutions have already adopted similar systems:
* Albright College
* American University
* Brandeis University
* Brown University
* City University of New York schools
* Duke University
* Emerson College
* Emory University
* Framingham State University
* Hampshire College
* Harvard University
* Indiana University
* Long Island University
* New York University
* Northeastern University
* Oberlin College
* Penn State University
* Providence College
* Sarah Lawrence College
* Simmons College
* Smith College
* Stanford University

Dear Elizabeth Pyle and the Office of the Registrar,

We are writing today to address the issue of transcript requests, and to petition Mount Holyoke to update the system by which alumni are able to access their student records.

In order to get a copy of your transcript, Mount Holyoke College requires alumni to mail or fax in a written request form, and mail in either $4 in US cash or a $4 check. Mount Holyoke's process is not only a potential hindrance to education and career advancement, but is discriminatory against alumni outside the US who may have limited access to US currency or an affordable mailing service. We, the Mount Holyoke alumni community, urge the Office of the Registrar to adopt an online system for requesting official transcripts, and to allow for the free digital download of unofficial transcripts.
