Petition to Enact a Moratorium on Hydrofracking in the Town of Homer, NY

  • by: MICAH
  • recipient: The Homer Town Board

We, the undersigned, believe that the high-volume, slick water, horizontal hydrofracturing technique of gas extraction (commonly known as hydrofracking) threatens the Town of Homer’s water, air, public health, agriculture, economy, and infrastructure. We believe that allowing this practice in our community at this time will significantly endanger our community’s well-being. As a heavily industrialized process, hydrofracking in other states has severely damaged local agriculture, hunting, fishing, tourism, and roads. We believe it is critical for our community that the specific impacts of hydrofracking on the town of Homer be better researched and understood before allowing it to permanently change this community. We urge the town of Homer to enact a ONE-YEAR MORATORIUM on hydrofracking.
