Stop Giving LaHave Residents a Hard Time with the LaHave Ferry Price Hike

The LaHave ferry price hike is too steep - we cannot stomach the 160% increase!

I, the undersigned, am respectfully petitioning the Transport Ministry under Minster Geoff MacLellan to put a stop to the LaHave cable ferry service price hike. This price hike is unaffordable for LaHave and East LaHave residents, and it will eventually do more harm for the community than good.

On April 1, 2015, ticket prices for taking the LaHave cable ferry went up by 160%. From $13.50, the price of a 10-trip punch ticket went up to $35, while the single-trip tickets saw an increase of $1.50, from $5.50 to $7. These increases are too high and too sudden. Eventually it will force LaHave and East LaHave residents who need to take the ferry to get to work to drive 45 minutes around the LaHave River, when the drive should only take five minutes across the river through the ferry.

The need to generate extra revenue to keep the ferry service running is totally understandable. However, in this case, the price hike is much too high. It won't help the community in the long run. Therefore, I am submitting this petition to the Transport Ministry in the hope that they will reverse the price hike.

The undersigned,
