RE: Case # 14-1408 Animal Cruelty on Odessa Boxers, Rally and Jacob

Mr Conner,

WE come to you on this day, on behalf of thousands of tax payers and registered voters across the nation. We as a people are not looking at this from an animal advocate point of view…but as one of a human being. We have to tell you, Mr. Conner, that this act of cruelty is done by a dangerous person and is the cruelest form of abuse. Some people tend to not feel so guilty or such remorse about this particular type of abuse (starvation) as most will say…” It’s only an animal”.

We would hope that since you have the position you have as County Prosecutor for the State of Texas that you achieved that by showing good judgment and recourse. This particular case is not about a  dog, or two…this is about a living soul, a life that had no choice to survive,  a life that was tortured by her abusive and callous owner.

Rally was contained, locked with dual locks, starved and she literally died the most horrible death due to the slow nature of body shut-down. Mr. Conner…have you ever been hungry? Cold? Frightened? Can you imagine that feeling? Can you imagine how long a mere minute is when you are starving to death? Do you know how wonderful a warm moment is once your body has reached the point to where you are numb from the cold? Do you know the pain that runs throughout your body when your body temperature is so cold? Starvation…at first your body eats its own fat and muscle, then your kidneys begin to fail you. Next your liver shuts down and all you can do is pull a shallow painful breath. Can you imagine? Can you imagine living in those conditions for what seems to be an eternity…waiting…hoping that today is the day when you hear the click of a lock… or see the light of day?

I cannot imagine living or surviving any of those horrifying minutes! How can we as humans expect less for another living soul? What gives us the right as humans to inflict such pain and torture upon a weak and defenseless animal? Where have we gone wrong to allow a pet owner the right to neglect, starve and slowly torture a locked up animal that cannot fend for itself and inflict such a slow painful death? It’s a power struggle for abusers. It gives them the power to control and it has been proven that eventually these people desire more power and seek it by abusing humans. Is that what we want? For it to get to the point a human suffers at the hands of this cruel person.

When we know an abusive act has occurred…how can we not hold the person morally and legally responsible? We can’t help Rally…bless her heart…she has died and we will never know the many minutes she lay there with starvation & thirst ravaging her body. We will never feel the cold and lonely death she faced while freezing and shivering uncontrollably. We will never know what went on in her mind mentally. I can tell you that Rally must have wanted to be free from the pain, the hunger, the thirst, the lonliness, the cold, the heat and the prison she had to survive in simply because her heart continued to beat.

Rally is free now and Jacob has healed. Many hours and lots of money have been spent cleaning up the mess this owner made. Your decision should reflect the inhumane act of this person and should serve justice to the helpless, trapped and abused dog that laid there and suffered. Mr. Conners….you have the power…but do you have the heart and the courage to bring real justice? We hope that before you go in to sentence this evil person that you take just 5 minutes to look at the pictures of Rally. We hope that you take the time to look at each little bone that protruded from her hyde and know the pain she felt every minute of every day. You see Mr Conners….Rally did not live a life….she lived a death. Her purpose was to have pups to finance the sadistic life this man lived. Rally slowly and painfully died day after day after day. Please…do not walk into that court room on a day of judgement as the prosecutor of this case…please walk in there as a caring human being who is speaking out for Rally…for Jacob and many others. As an elected official your position is to represent the victim…to seek justice. Do it for Rally…for Jacob…for the people…but most of all Mr. Conner…do it because the law that exists for this action is there to prevent this from ever happening…and when it does…it should be punishable by law.

This case has taken many months and many hours of investigation and prosecution. We all know that prosecuting this case is not cheap, but we pay to seek the justice. We only hope that the money used to prosecute this case will be money well spent. We will not be happy with a simple plea in this case . We will be here through the end…to see that justice is served and what you choose to do will represent not only your professional position, but will speak out loud as for the type of person you are.

Respectfully,

The People
