Stop BSL in Mobile, AL

Breed specific legislation is detrimental to communities.  It removes family pets from good owners and does nothing to get at the root issue of negligent pet owners.

BSL is racial profiling, except with dogs; they are targeted because of the way they look.

Dangerous dogs do exist, and there should be laws concerning those particular animals.  One dog should not be persecuted because of another's actions, just as we do not punish people for the actions of others.  The breed of dog has nothing to do with its aggressive tendencies or lack thereof.  People must be held accountable for their actions and the actions of their pets.

BSL includes any legislation at all that targets a particular breed, and this petition is to prevent that.  Animal legislation should apply to all breeds and allow our communities to be protected from all aggressive animals.

Dear Mayor Jones,

I am writing to you to urge you to not consider Breed Specific Legislation.  We, as a community, are concerned for the welfare of our people and our animals.  We want our people to be protected from aggressive animals, and we can not do that if we only ban certain breeds of dogs.  We need stricter animal control laws, such as higher fines for stray animals and banning the tethering of animals.  Aggression is in no way related to a certain breed of dog, much more rather the way that dog is treated and/or trained.  We also want to protect our dogs when the incidents occur.  We know that people will look at our dogs and discriminate against them, simply because they look a certain way.  Please consider this petition and our words as we speak out against Breed Specific Legislation.

Sincerely,

Ashley Allen
