There is an endemic of family dogs (many pit bulls, rotties and german shepards - but even young puppies and small dogs) being gunned down in this country at an alarming rate. Many are killed on the owner's property with the owner home and the shootings within inches of humans. One woman was pregnant and holding her dog when police shot her dog! Often the police do not apologize or notify the owners their dog has been murdered by them. Some of these episodes have been caputred on video - and the dogs clearly show no aggression or provocation for being shot. Our dogs are not target practice!

Dear President Obama and Advisors:
There is an epidemic of law enforcement killing family dogs in this nation. Often the murders are unwarranted when there is no threat or danger to the officer. Humans are sometimes hit by the bullets or are within inches of the bullet's path. Some of these executions have been captured on video tape. In the last six months there have been daily executions of family dogs by law enforcement. THIS MUST STOP. Law enforcement needs training on how to deal with dogs and dog behavior. This should be a national mandate for all police departments in the nation. There also needs to be sanctions against officers for murdering family dogs while humans are in close proximity. The USA is not a police state. This unwarranted and reckless behavior must stop now!
These killings are happening to every day Americans - not "thugs" committing illegal acts. A pregnant woman (shot while holding her dog), a sitting dog being calm and mild - caught on video, police officers going to the wrong address when trying to serve warrants, police going to wrong addresses of reports of a loose dog - not announcig themselves and killing the first dog they see. The list goes on and on. It is egrigous and is happening on a daily basis.
