Involve Community Input in the Creation of Malden's CPA Ordinance

  • by: l. sulda
  • recipient: Malden City Council

This petition is being signed to urge Malden City Council to support community involvement in the creation of the Community Preservation Act Ordinance and the Community Preservation Committee and delay any vote on the CPA Ordinance until after there has been formal public input and further educational materials presented at a Council Meeting. It is vital to achieve proper citizen engagement and transparency on the CPC Ordinance in such a process so that the merits of different models of the Ordinance and CPC can be properly reviewed.

The Residents of Malden gathered the signatures to put CPA on the ballot, Residents educated the community about the CPA, the community of Malden adopted the CPA, and it is imperative that Residents play a pivotal role in the development of the Ordinance, the Community Preservation Committee and CPA projects.

The CPC is meant to be a working Committee accountable to the Council and must be comprised of Residents/Members qualified to conduct evaluation across all Wards and prepare CPA Project recommendations to the Council.

The passage of Question 3 in November proved that Residents want to participate in making Malden a great place to live and raise families. A carefully designed CPC is sure to empower the Residents and Council to work effectively.

Please support community involvement in the structuring of the CPA Ordinance and the ensuing CPC by delaying the vote on the CPA Ordinance until further education and formal public input can be gathered and presented to the Council.
