Stop Italy from Capturing an Innocent Bear

On Sunday an elderly man was walking his dog in an area in Northern Italy in which bears are known to live. There are signs warning of the danger, but unfortunately this man was unlucky enough to catch a bear off-guard and unwittingly provoke an attack.

Now, he didn't die. Which is already something, when confronted with a bear. His dog didn't have a scratch on it. We can safely assume that the bear felt threatened and decided to defend itself, without killing or even nearly killing any other creature.

Instead of applauding this fact and maybe implementing awareness and information regarding the area, the Italian government decided to issue a capture warrant for this particular bear, which has turned into a witch hunt. What will happen when the whole area has been flushed of its wildlife, that will run to shelter from the hoard of angry humans? What will happen IF they find that bear, or another one? What will happen if the bear was a female, defending its cubs?

Was this really necessary?

We are begging Italy to leave this bear alone. It's not a problem animal, it's not a danger to humans and it's not worth sacrificing it for petty, political reasons. Leave our animals alone!
