Turn Left on Red

The Americans do not have roundabouts, or the M1 or even that bit in Lancaster that I like so much, but what they do have is the ability to turn right on red (if there is nothing coming) and I believe that with this ability we will reduce the number of traffic jams and our emissions, you say you want a green country but with cars being forced to burn fuel going nowhere with an empty road ahead this vision cannot become a reality, if the Conservatives were to put this in there manifesto they would gain many votes from truckers and haulage companies and anyone who hates waiting around while the road ahead is clear and wants to reduce the amount of fuel burnt. You may come back and say that it is a Health and Safety nightmare, but think about it, the red light (When turning) will be treated as a give way sign, if a vehicle is coming and has right of way then you must stop but if the road is empty then you can go right ahead after stopping to check, I propose a trial period and if it is found to work then we should seriously consider bringing this in permanently.
