Give InterVarsity Oasis Assistance Back to the International Students

We, the international students and scholars at the University of Louisville, do not agree with the decision of the Vice Provost of Diversity Dr. Mordean Taylor-Archer and the University, to end the relationship with the RSO InterVarsity Oasis group. Ending this 15 year relationship will have devastating consequences for current and new international students.

It was decided that Oasis is a liability to the University and it is too “risky” to continue offering this choice of services to the internationals.  In the past, the International Center could ask students if they needed any assistance from this RSO. However, now, the Vice-Provost and the legal department has instructed the International Center to remove the InterVarsity name from its webpage and has also issued a “gag-order” on Sharolyn Pepper to not tell the students how to get this help, even if they ask.

The Vice-Provost admitted that they do not have the resources, time, or manpower to do what InterVarsity has, and yet they insist on this “divorce”. We think that even if  U of L did these services for us, they would not do them out of love like InterVarsity has. Many of us see the Intervarsity Oasis group as our “home away from home"; and without their help and support, we wouldn’t have been successful academically and emotionally. With this “divorce” there are many repercussions that the University needs to consider.

We, the international students, are the ones that are harmed the most.
