Do you want a SAFE FOOTPATH on Benhiam Street??!!

We are requesting that Brisbane City Council provide local residents and rate payers with adequate and safe pedestrian access across the bridge/creek crossing on Benhiam Street, Calamvale.

This bridge is far too narrow and is only just wide enough for cars to pass each other, and barely wide enough for a car and a bus to pass each other - and does not provide ANY safe access for pedestrians!

Due to large population increases within the local area in recent years after numerous townhouse developments, the opening of the Calamvale District Park and the recent commencement of Brisbane City Council bus routes along Benhiam Street, there is an increasing occurance of pedestrian and vehicular congestion on the bridge crossing Sheepstation Gully, near the intersection of Benhiam & Ormskirk Streets.

This is a daily danger for both pedestrians and drivers and is unacceptable!

Upon initial complaint the Brisbane City Council, their response was:

'Unfortunately being in a rural area where there is no kerb and channelling, footpaths are not a viable option at this time.'

This seems ridiculous when on the opposite side of Ormskirk Street, approximately 20 metres away - there is a footpath where there is NO kerb and channelling.

Also, how many people would describe Calamvale as a RURAL AREA???
