No Horse Slaughter Plant in Oklahoma

Two bills have passed the Oklahoma Senate and House, (SB 375 and HB 1999 ), that would end a 50 year ban and allow the slaughter of horses for human consumption.

Both bill still would ban the sale of horse meat for consumption in Oklahoma, but would allow for the meat to be exported to other countries. Food Safety News reports that Senate Bill 375 allows horsemeat to be exported internationally, while House Bill 1999 would allow horses to be slaughtered in Oklahoma but would continue the existing domestic ban on the sale of horsemeat for human consumption.

We ask Oklahoma Goveror Mary Fallin not to approve these bills and to keep the reputation of Oklahoma as a horse loving state- not the horse slaughter capitol of the world. Do not allow horse slaughter packaging factories in Oklahoma. America must have a better product to export besides dead, iconic horses.
