Please sign and share this petition worldwide in an effort to save a couple of cubs that were recently sold to private owners as pets by a private zoo in Rafah in Southern Gaza at the tender young age of two weeks old. These young animals have been used for various photo shoots and human interaction. We are trying to support the concerns of animal welfare experts regarding keeping these cubs as pets and exploiting them. We want to ban the sales of these cubs to private owners and encourage authorities to place them in a safe and responsible sanctuary for their health and well-being.
News reports published on the One Green Planet showed two adorable cubs that have been sold to private owners as pets, with the animals interacting with humans and being exploited through various photo opportunities. Animal welfare experts have grave concerns about keeping these cubs as pets, continuing to state that, not only does the keeping of wild animals in domestic settings seriously compromise the welfare of the animals, but it also poses a very real and serious threat to the people around them.
Animal protection in Palestine and Gaza are now working hard to find a more suitable environment for the two young cubs. Rather than selling these cubs to private buyers, it is important that their best interest be the number one priority. As stated by the spokesman for the Palestinian animal welfare group PAL, “It is vital that we deal not just with the individual cubs that are currently in private hands, but also that we work to ensure that those profiting from selling and hiring out the cubs fully understand that wild animals such as these have no place in people’s homes.”
