I moved to Houston/Jersey Village 77065 this past April. My only means of transportation was Houston's Metro Lift service. Only after I called to schedule a trip from my new address to the grocery store was I told they didn't service Jersey Village. Even though, I had changed my address with them prior to moving. I had spoken to several of the driver's on my previous trips and was told by Metro Lift bus driver's that they did come to Jersey Village; Castlebridge Dr. and West Rd. They go to a store which is .31 miles from my apartment building. (They turn left not right onto my street). A Metro Lift supervisor was supposed to get back with me and to date they haven't. I put in a second complaint via the Metro Lift website and I received an answer from Lorri Coody, City Secretary, City of Jersey Village simply stating that The City of Jersey Village doesn't participate in the Metro Lift program. And that the store I mentioned was not within the cities limits. However said store in the same city zone as my "elderly apartment building" according to the City of Jersey Villages zoning map which is inside the city of Jersey Villages "dotted line" on the map.
My goal is to get Harris County Metro Lift service in Jersey Village, so the elderly and disabled citizens like myself can gain or maintain some of their self-esteem and independence by not being a burden to family, friends and sometimes perfect strangers to get to the store or Doctor's appointments. And alleviate undo added stress to our elderly and disabled for worrying on how and when they can get to stores or doctors’ appointments.
My apartment building which has 220 apartments has many, many residents that would use and would benefit from having their own means of transportation by means of Metro Lift. As I am sure that there are elderly and disabled all over Jersey Village who would benefit from Metro Lift services. Being shut-in causes health issues and depression; which shortens lives. Please sign this petition so that the authorities of City of Jersey Village and Metro Lift come to an agreement and will participate in Metro Lift before they themselves become elderly or disabled and have no means of transportation without being a burden to friends, family and have to rely on perfect strangers.
