Stop Fracking in Boulder County!

On December 4th, Boulder County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on whether to extend their ban on granting permits for oil and gas hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in the County.

Fracking pumps chemicals into the ground, shattering shale to release oil and gas. The chemicals involved in fracking pollute the earth, groundwater and air, causing cancer, immune and endocrine disorders and other illnesses.

Community members are worried about the effects of fracking on their health and environment, but the County fears lawsuits from the state. Colorado favors the oil and gas industry, and has sued communities who tried to protect their people from fracking's effects. The Colorado Constitution, however, clearly says that the final authority lies with the people, not with the state government or with gas and oil industries.

Please sign the petition to convince commissioners to ban fracking in Boulder County.

Dear Boulder County Commissioners,

We, the undersigned, are concerned with the plans to lift a moratorium on fracking in the County of Boulder.

As you know, fracking pumps chemicals into the ground, shattering shale to release oil and gas. The chemicals involved in fracking pollute the earth, groundwater and air, causing cancer, immune and endocrine disorders and other illnesses.

Community members are worried about the effects of fracking on their health and environment, but we understand that the County fears lawsuits from the state. We know that Colorado favors the oil and gas industry, and has sued communities who tried to protect their people from fracking's effects. The Colorado Constitution, however, clearly says that the final authority lies with the people, not with the state government or with gas and oil industries.

We believe the people of Boulder have the right to a healthy, clean environment and hope you will stand up for their interests. We respectfully urge you to ban fracking completely in the County of Boulder. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
