Colombia, Protect Women and Girls!

2 million women and girls are displaced in Colombia. This population is at a higher risk for becoming victims of rape and domestic violence. Facing displacement, abuse trauma, and often poverty, these individuals are also likely to have barriers for getting the services they need.

Women often get no or delayed medical care and are treated wrongly by medical professionals. Many health workers don't have the knowledge to handle rape or domestic violence cases, allowing treatment to go unimplemented. Women are often asked humiliating, victim blaming questions about what they did for their assault to happen, or what they were wearing and about their sexual history when it comes to rape. These women and girls generally do not see their abusers prosecuted.

Women and girls deserve to be treated with respect and to see their abusers brought to justice. It is time for Colombia to improve existing laws and ensure they are enforced. Please tell Colombia to protect women and girls!

Dear Colombia Government,

Women and girls displaced in Colombia, which is estimated to be around 2 million people, are at a higher risk for rape and domestic violence. Often living in poverty, these women face displacement, abuse, and barriers for getting the services they need.

Women are asked victim blaming questions about what they were wearing or what they did to provoke their attackers instead of seeing their abusers brought to justice. They are denied medical care or get delayed medical care from people that often lack basic knowledge about rape, domestic violence, or the displaced population.

It is time for Colombia to improve existing laws and enforce them. Please protect women and girls in Colombia.

Thank you for your time.
